Developing your Personal Development Plan is the major summative assessment for the Becoming an Effective Leader course. It will be peer assessed. The Task This is an ideal time to reflect on what you have learned from this course and what you want to achieve from the Business Leadership MicroMasters® program to derive maximum benefit. In addition to gaining functional knowledge of leadership, what do you hope to achieve both personally and professionally? What is your vision for your future? How is your overall sense of direction aligned with your vision? How will you assess your progress through the upcoming years of your career? The purpose of this assignment is to write yourself a comprehensive Personal Development Plan that references the relevant academic literature and the work you have done in this course. There are a range of capabilities that you might consider (in addition to knowledge). For example: • leadership capability including a deeper understanding of your personal style and personality preferences, • your strengths and weaknesses, • your values and beliefs, • managing yourself and relating to others, • becoming a more effective communicator with a range of people from different backgrounds and with different styles, • becoming more emotionally and socially intelligent, learning effectively, and managing your own career. There are many more. Structuring your Personal Development Plan Full instructions for structuring your Personal Development Plan and what is to be included under each heading will be included for you in the Final Assessment section. However, the basic structure to be adopted is: Part One: Introduction (approx 100 words) Part Two: My Current Reality ( approx 800 words) Part Three: Working Towards My Future Reality (approx 600 words) Part Four: My Action Plan (approx 400 words) Part Five: Conclusion (approx 100 words) Part Six: Referencing (not included in the assignment word count) • We encourage you to draw on all the activities you have undertaken throughout this course to assist you in developing your Personal Development Plan. • Your response should be 1500 – 2000 words in length. Students are under no obligation to read or assess any words over this limit. • You must use appropriate referencing – APA 6th Style Guide. • Submit your response by uploading a pdf version of your plan. Tips! When answering the question ensure that you: • Demonstrate an understanding of the key issues, concepts, theories and leadership methodologies. • Discuss the implications for practice. • Incorporate critical reflection of relevant literature. • Refer to the marking criteria for further detail. The Process for the Peer Assessment 1. Compose your submission. 2. On the page that follows, you can see the marking rubric for this assessment. You are then asked to do practice assessments on two sample responses. 3. Submit your own writing and then provide an assessment of four (4) responses from your peers. A rubric is provided to help you to write your submission and to assess the writing of others. It is provided multiple times during the process. Please consult the rubric as needed, both during the writing process and during the peer assessment. 4. Once you have completed the required assessments, you will receive your grade from peers. This will be the median mark from three (3) peers. **It is important to allow sufficient time to write your own submission, assess others’ submissions and be assessed by your peers. Peer Assessment As you review the work of your peers, it’s important to understand and recognize the challenges created by peer assessment. As you read the work of others, be kind and considerate. Please remember that this is a course that contains participants from all over the globe with different levels of expertize in both writing and the content. Reward the honest effort of students and do your best to provide a fair appraisal of their writing. We ask you to focus on the elements of the rubric and mark accordingly. Note: If you encounter a submission that you suspect of plagiarism, please mark ‘Inadequate’ (0) for each criteria and include a note containing ‘suspected plagiarism’ for staff action. Marking The entirety of this peer assessment is worth 40% of your mark in the course. While peer assessment is an online learning tool that we are excited to share with you, we realize that we cannot control the exact grade you will get as a result of this process. However, your ability to pass this course should not be jeopardized by this process or this assignment. Instead of focusing on the exact grade you earn in the course, it’s more important to focus on the learning you have completed throughout the course.
